Braide said this at the Heritage Homes Orphanage, Anthony, Lagos during an event to commemorate her birthday.
She said, “My birthday was on March 25 but instead of celebrating it as I did last year, I decided that I would spend it with these children because I have really been touched by them.
“I have donated some of the things I know that they will need. Today is not about speeches, but celebration. It is good for us to always remember them (orphans) and I hope we can make impacts in their lives in any way we can.”
The police image maker donated cartons of noodles, toiletries, drinks, bags of rice and other items to the orphans who came out in droves to celebrate with her.
The Administrative Officer of the orphanage, Mr. Kola Akinola, urged members of the public to emulate Braide’s gesture, adding that the importance of giving could never be overemphasised.
Akinola explained that the orphanage was a transit home as its aim was to rescue abandoned orphans and connect them with foster parents within the shortest possible time.
He said most of the children in the orphanage were between the ages of 0 and four, Adding that the orphanage could still use more generous donations.
He said, “This orphanage is a model transit home. The vision of this place is not to keep a child until the age of marriage. The aim here is to save lives of babies that have been orphaned or abandoned. Some of the babies come with certain medical conditions so we begin to rehabilitate.
“As soon as this is done, we try as quickly as possible to get a parent for the child, but if the child is over five and has not found a parent, the child is then taken to the Lekki branch of the orphanage because the directive is that children that are four years apart should not share the same room.
“We don’t make money from this orphanage, but through the help of some good members of the society, we have been able to keep the dream alive.”
