CHIBOK: FRESH CONFUSION OVER ABDUCTORS’ IDENTITY

Despite Federal Government’s recent moves to get to the root of the disappearance of over 200 secondary school girls in Chibok, with the constitution of a committee to unravel the mystery, there were fears yesterday that the girls might not have been abducted by the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, after all.
Sunday Newswatch investigations revealed that, unlike previous operations of the sect, which they always claim responsibility for, no statement has emanated from Boko Haram over the abduction.
This development, Sunday Newswatch gathered, informed the terms of the committee the Federal Government set up on Friday after an extensive meeting President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, and the Defence Minister, General Aliyu Gusau, had with service chiefs in Abuja.

Presidency sources informed Sunday Newswatch in the Federal Capital Territory, yesterday, that the process leading to the abduction and subsequent developments did not follow the established style of the terror merchants.
According to sources, the sect always claimed responsibility after major operations it carried out, that had attracted attention and condemnation, “but in this particular case, they kept mum. Don’t forget that few days after the first bomb attack at Nyanya, which killed over 75 persons, the sect issued a statement claiming responsibility,” a source, who sought anonymity, informed Sunday Newswatch.
Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, when contacted to speak on the alleged movement of the abducted girls said he was not competent to talk on it, adding that it was only the Defence Headquarters or the Commissioner for Education, Borno State, who could speak on it.
The Special Adviser to Borno State Governor on Media, Alhaji Isa Gusau, did not respond, when calls were put across to him, yesterday.
