IRRESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP CAUSING NIGERIA’S PROBLEMS –MAITAMA SULE

The Chairman, Northern Elders Forum (NEF) and Nigeria’s former permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule yesterday said corruption and other vices such as the Boko Haram insurgency are perturbing Nigeria as a result of irresponsible leadership.
Maitama Sule who was represented by Barrister Solomon Dalong at a centenary lecture organized by the Law Students’ Society of Nigeria in the University of Jos also chided the country’s youths for giving up their positions while celebrating irresponsible leaders.
The NEF chairman added:”Our leaders today were leaders at 23, they were leaders at 40 and at 70, they are still leaders. It is very sad that unionism today has been corrupted and our young generation has given up their positions as a result of corruption. These are the vices that destroyed the unity of this country and led to the question on whether the amalgamation of the country in 1914 is a blessing or a curse.”

In his remarks, NEF spokesman Prof. Ango Abdullahi said: “We know that Nigeria is in trouble and we ask, where do we find solace or solutions?”
Former Minister of Power and Steel, Dr Paul Unongo said, “The future of this country has always depended on the youths. The Azikiwes, Gowons and Aminu Kano were youths. We have a terrible situation, let us not deny it but we can improve and the youths are the agents of improvement.”
