WOMAN DOCKED FOR SUPPLYING BOYFRIEND CANNABIS [IGBO] IN PRISON

The deep and unconditional love exhibited by two famous lovers in William Shakespeare’s epic novel Romeo and Juliet was in full display recently in Lagos when a lady risked her life and future for her boyfriend, damning every consequence.
Oyinyechi Ezirim is a 35 year-old unmarried lady who had been searching for husband for a long time and to no avail until recently when she eventually met the man that promised to make her his wife and mother of his children.
Naturally, any lady in this circumstance would want to keep the relationship going and that was what Oyinyechi did until she walked her way into trouble. Oyinyechi and her fiancé were billed to be wedded before middle of this year, but she might have to wait much longer before she eventually realised her desire.

Apparently while their wedding plans had reached advanced stage, Oyinyechi’s lover was involved in a crime which reportedly landed him in Kirikiri Prisons where he had been cooling his heels for some time now. Oyinyechi, who hails from Imo State, is a graduate of Imo School of Catering and has been practicing her profession in Lagos ever since she left the school.
A die hard lover that she is, Oyinyechi never for once left her boyfriend to his fate while he languishes in prisons. On a weekly basis, she goes to see him and anytime she visited the prison yard, she would always supply her husband with his preferred delicacy. Those who know Oyinyechi’s boyfriend, even while in prison, know he is a great fan of noodles. So, Oyinyechi made it a point of duty to supply her boyfriend his choice food.
The last time she went, however, the unexpected happened and Oyinyechi herself is most likely to join her boyfriend in prison, if found guilty of her crime. Not long ago during one of such visits to her boyfriend at Kirikiri Prisons with noodles, as was the practice, officials of the facility subjected items often brought for inmates and inside all 20 packets of noodles she brought in for her boyfriend, all were stashed with substances suspected to be cannabis.
She was immediately identified as owner of the consignment and arrested. Oyinyechi has since reportedly confessed to her crime, while claiming that it was her inmate boyfriend that directed her to the woman that gave her the two cartoons of noodles. Lagos State commander of the NDLEA, Mr Aliyu Sule said that the suspect who was transferred by the prison authority will soon be charged to court. According to the NDLEA boss, “A 35 year-old single lady, Oyinyechi Ezirim was transferred by the Prison authorities for smuggling cannabis to inmates.
The compressed dried weeds concealed inside noodles tested positive for cannabis and weighed 4.1kg. She will soon be charged to court” Aliyu said. In her confessional statement, Oyinyechi says, “I used to buy noodles for my boyfriend who has been in prison custody for one year.
He promised to get married to me and we have been in courtship. “Last week, he told me that a former inmate promised to send him two cartons of noodles. He asked me to contact the man on phone. When I did, the man referred me to his wife who gave me the noodles. Unfortunately, when I got to the prison, 20 packs of the noodles were found to contain hemp.
That was how I found myself in this case,” Oyinyechi said amid tears. Reacting to the lady’s arrest, Chairman of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, called for thorough investigation into the case. He, however, commended Prison authorities for the lady’s arrest and assured that other people in the cartel would be fished out from their hidings. His words, “I commend the Prison authority for the arrest and prompt transfer of the suspect for prosecution.
This case will be properly investigated. We shall get to its root and arrest other persons involved in the criminal act. Members of the public must be careful in their dealings and avoid getting involved in drug trafficking” Giade said.
