“The Nigerian Judiciary can no longer condone indolence, ineptitude, corruption or any form of judicial misconduct,” Mukhtar said at the opening ceremony of their induction course.
She urged the judicial officers to abide by the code of conduct and imbibe judiciary’s way of life immediately, noting, “any deviation could be devastating not just to you but to the Nigerian Judiciary. Do your work well and you will have nothing to fear, but a lot to gain.
“However, if you choose the corrupt or dishonourable way, or become indolent and unproductive, more of a liability than an asset, you can only have yourself to blame because the consequences will not be pleasing, though deserving.”
Determined not to leave the judges in doubt as to the fact that their performances would be under constant scrutiny, she said the leadership has introduced Judicial Performance Evaluation, a mechanism through which judges’ performance on the bench can be measured against the established benchmark.
In his remark, the administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Justice Umaru Eri, urged judges to shun corruption and expeditiously determine cases of economic crimes brought before them.
