DON’T APPEAR BEFORE HOUSE WITHOUT CLEARANCE, JANG TELLS COMMISSIONERS

Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang, has directed his commissioners and political appointees not to appear before any committee set up by the State House of Assembly to probe his administration of alleged financial misconduct, without clearance from him.
Jang gave the directive yesterday in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Plateau State government, Prof Shedrack Best.
According to the memo singed by Izam Azi, Permanent secretary, Policy and General Services on behalf of Shedrack, “no civil servant working under the state government or any political appointee is allowed to honour invitation from the State House of Assembly without seeking clearance from the governor.”
The memo which copy was obtained by Daily Newswatch reads thus: “I am directed to inform you that henceforth, no ministry, department or agency is to appear before any committee anywhere with respect to any petition, unless you seek clearance and obtain approval from the governor.”
The memo which was copied all government ministries, department and agencies of the state as well as commissioners and special advisers, urged them to comply strictly with the directive.
It could be recalled that the State House of Assembly had set up a committee of the House to probe allegations of gross financial misconduct level against the state government by a group known as “Plateau Patriotic Front” whose identity is yet to be known.
Similarly, the son of Governor Jang, Yakubu Jang, has approached the State High Court to prevent the lawmakers from probing him and the governor.
The court has served and urged the House to take no further step in their move to probe the government, pending the determination of the suit filed by Yakubu Jang, who is also the Special Adviser to Jang on Special Duties.
