Governor of Adamawa State, retired Admiral Murtala Nyako, as reportedly fled the state in a desperate bid to avoid being served with impeachment notice by the State House of Assembly.
News Express had minutes ago broken the news that Adamawa lawmakers have voted to impeach Nyako and his deputy, Mr. Bala Ngilari.
A competent source told News Express that while Ngilari has been served with the impeachment notice, Nyako immediately vanished from the state upon getting news of what happened at the State House of Assembly.
According to News Express’ source, “To avoid being served, Nyako chartered a private jet with a view to flying out of the state but that did not work because of the subsisting ban on chartered flights in the North-East. As an alternative, he took off from the state capital Yola by road and has headed for Abuja through Gombe State.”
Nyako has lately had running battles with Adamawa lawmakers over issues bothering on the management of the state’s finances. News Express had on May 28 reported that the impeachment axe was dangling over the embattled governor but that northern governors had waded in with a view to saving his job – an intervention which appears to have been fruitless.
