KILLING OF FULANI: LAMIDO THREATENS TO TAKE FG TO ICC

Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, yesterday threatened to drag the federal government to the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague to ensure that justice is done to the six Fulani herdsmen allegedly killed by some military personnel in the state.
Lamido issued the threat while receiving the National President of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Muhammad Kirawo and his entourage, who paid him a condolence visit over the killing of the Fulani in his state.
The governor said his conscience will not allow him any peace if his Fulani kinsmen would be extra-judicially killed by people that are supposed to be the protectors of lives and properties.

Lamido said already, a bill in that regard had been sent to the state Assembly, and that the parliament had already started acting on same by visiting the scene of the killings in Saminaka local government area of Kaduna state.
“We would also intimate our members at the National Assembly on the issue while I will personally meet the president on how to bring justice to the affected people, and ensure that the culprits face appropriate prosecution.
“And after exhausting these avenues and we do not get the desired justice from the government, I assure you that our next point of call would be The Hague”, he stated.
Governor Lamido, who was named the ‘Garkuwan Fulanin Nijeriya’, meaning ‘the Shield of the Fulani in Nigeria’, vowed never to let go the killings, which he termed as cruel and a manifestation of hatred for the Fulani.
“We would demand for full compensation and prosecution of the perpetrators of this evil and barbaric act”, he further assured.
In his speech, Kirawo commended Lamido on the motion he presented during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum meeting, which paved way for a meeting of the governors with leaders of Fulani pastoralists, who were affected by series of crises in the region.
