NEW AIRLINE, DISCOVERYAIR, BEGINS OPERATIONS NEXT WEEK

Barely three weeks after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, ushered a new entrant into the airline sub-sector in Nigeria the regulatory agency yesterday issued a licence to another one, Discovery- Air, to start flight operations.
The NCAA, at its annex at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos, issued the new airline its with its Air Operators’ Certificate, AOC, to commence operations in the local market.
With the issuance of the AOC, the airline is set to begin flights on Monday.
The Acting Director- General of NCAA, Mr. Benedict Adeyileka, said the airline was issued the certificate after it met all the minimum safety requirements.
He added that the aviation firm’s aircraft were considered safe enough to fly within the Nigerian airspace by the agency.

Presenting the certificate to the Chairman, DiscoveryAir, Mr. Babatunde Babalola, Adeyileka commended the airline for the professional manner it conducted itself while the certification period lasted.
He urged the management to continue to uphold professionalism in its operations.
The NCAA boss said that operators were critical in ensuring air safety in the industry and called for a harmonious working relationship with the airlines in order to engender a safer sky for the flying public.
He reiterated the support of the regulatory agency to all new and existing airlines in the industry and charged them to always remit the five per cent tax collected on behalf of NCAA promptly to avoid sanctions.
In his address, the Chairman of Discovery- Air, Babalola, lauded the NCAA for its support and ‘share’ in the ‘success story’ of the airline.
He promised that the airline would adhere strictly to safety procedures, stressing that the airline went through the certification period with total adherence to safety procedures.
