ONE CIVILIAN DEAD AS MILITARY JETS DROP BOMBS IN ADAMAWA

A resident was killed today when a military plane dropped three bombs on civilians shortly after suspected Boko Haram insurgents killed soldier in Madagali town in Madagali local government area of Adamawa State.
A local official said the assailants controlled the town between 6am and 8 am today, killing a soldier who had gunned down three of their comrades during the attack.
Shortly after the attackers carried away their dead and left , an aircraft deployed to repel them dropped three bombs each on a church, a mosque and near a police post. A girl identified as Laraba Michael was instantly killed at the affected church while another girl was injured at a different place.
“Boko Haram fighters raided Madagali town between 6 am and 8 pm in the morning, they burnt a Development Area office and attacked a church. After they left, an aircraft sent to fight them bombed the town. A girl died while another was wounded.”, the source added.

A security officer in Madagali told Daily Trust that during the attack soldiers at a military camp fled in to the surrounding bush except one of them who hid in the Madagali Development Area building, so when the insurgents entered the building to set it ablaze, the soldier killed three of them before he was eventually overpowered and killed.
“All the soldiers fled except one who took cover inside the Development Area office. He succeeded in killing three of the attackers before the got him but they took the corpses away because they did not encounter any resistance except for the encounter with the fallen soldier”, he added.
"The plane should have trailed them in to the forest and attack their positions instead of carelessly bombing the victims of insurgency.Thre is need for caution and coordination between the ground troops and the air men", the source added.
He further stated that the insurgents had attacked Gubla village in the early in the morning before proceeding to Madagali town, saying no casualty has yet been established in respect of Gubla attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Police Command, Usman Abubakar confirmed the incident but could not comment further as he said the details are sketchy.
Madagali local government which is situated near Sambisa forest and shares border with Borno State and Cameroon has lost hundreds of people to insurgents’ attacks.
