FAYOSE, FAYEMI AT WAR OVER BANK ACCOUNTS

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has warned banks doing business with the state to stop fraternising with the governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, and his representatives before his tenure expires on 15 October, 2014.
In an advertorial published by Ekiti State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo, in a national daily, the Fayemi administration said it learnt that Fayose and his representatives were meeting banks that have relationship with his government and seeking information on government transactions and state of finances.
“We wish to make it unequivocally clear to all the banks that have relationship with the state government that their relationship is with the current government of Ekiti which tenure expires on October 15, 2014,” Ekundayo stated in the advertorial.

The Ekiti government spokesman clarified that a new government would be inaugurated on October 16, 2014 and it is only then that its officials have the right to relate with the banks on behalf of the state.
“Therefore, no bank has the right to discuss Ekiti State Government finances with any other individual or persons other than the current state officials and the established channels,” Ekundayo added.
He warned that any bank that flouted the agreement would only be breaching the ethics of the profession and betraying the very basis of the fiducial relationship between the government of Ekiti State and the bank, adding that this would be dealt with appropriately.
