A police inspector attempted to open fire on the Commandant-General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ade Abolurin at Ikorodu in Lagos State, according to a press release e-mailed by the Corps spokesman CSC Emmanuel Okeh.
It added that the incident happened as a result of the arrest of some suspects in possession of petroleum products. “The suspected police team came in an unmarked Danfo bus carrying AK47 rifles and challenged the CG, stressing that he has no right to visit the area because it belongs to the police,” Okeh’s statement read.
The statement continued: “The committee which the CG NSCDC is the chairman of was constituted by the office of the Attorney-General of the federation and have for some time now been on assessment tour of the country for disposable forfeited items used for vandalism. However, attempts by members of the committee to caution the officer were rebuffed, claiming that they are on a mission.”
Okeh, in the statement, added that it is unclear if the suspected officer was “working on a written script by a superior authority or just acting in his own capacity as a vandal in uniform.” He added that there are increasing cases of officers of the corps being brazenly harassed, molested, assassinated or maimed by officers of the Nigeria police in the course of carrying out legitimate assignments. He added: “Still fresh in our memories is the killing of two men of the anti-vandal squad of the Lagos State command of NSCDC by policemen in 2013.
CSC Okeh’s statement concluded: “The Act establishing the NSCDC is unequivocal in its assignment of the duty of protection of critical infrastructure of government and national assets to the corps.”
The police spokesperson was not available for comment at press time.

ReplyDeleteThe atrocity in out country is too much, much of the Vandals are said to be Police officers, who are suppose to protect the nations asset but, are busy making millions of naira out of this. How will they be happy when the responsibility is taken from them and given to a reliable organisation. Nobody can try such an attempt of assassination to a Police Constable and you will here that investigation is going on the matter. If the other committee members where not there to withness the incident, you can be sure what the caption will be
