BOKO HARAM FUELLED BY DESPERATE POLITICIANS —ANYAOKU

Former Secretary-General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, has disclosed that Nigeria as country is in deep crisis and insecurity as a result of desperation for political power by so call leaders.
Anyaoku, who also carpeted both Christian and Muslim group as the major contributory factor to Boko Haram in the country stated this, while speaking on Tuesday, at a the two-day National Retreat on Human Security in Abuja, or
ganised by National Orientation Agency (NOA), with the theme: “Mainstreaming human security.”
He noted that most of internal crisis experienced in Nigeria is often generated by desperation and contestation for political power.
“The contestation become more disruptive of human security in pluralistic countries, when there is inequitable control of political power between the component major ethnic groups, or unbalanced distribution of socio-economic, resources or religious extremism particularly involving the desire by one group to impose its brand of religious on the other groups.

“Such conflicts naturally generate antagonistic memories that are sometimes hard to heal, even long after the cessation of conflict.
“We must build tolerance and harmony among parties previously in conflict for post-conflict reconciliation. Religion is a contributory factor to insurgency or conflict; we must continue to affirm the need for all religions to treat one another with mutual respect,” he said.
Anyaoku further said, “I am calling on all Nigerian leaders in the government, even opposition parties to join hands and learn from United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), India, and others in denouncing and fighting Boko Haram that is currently ravaging our country.”
Director General of NOA, Mr Mike Omeri in his address, noted that the purpose of retreat was to enlighten the entire nation to be on guard and step up security alertness to ensure smooth, peaceful transparent, violence free elections come 2015.
In his words: “The concept of this retreat was inspired by the commitment made by the president, Goodluck Jonathan to Africa heads of state and government at the international conference on human security, peace and sustainable development agenda for 21st century Africa held in Abuja on February 27, 2014.”
