…BOKO HARAM: NIGERIA AT WAR, NO PRETENCE–UMAR

Former Kaduna State Military Adminis¬trator, Colonel Dan¬giwa Umar (rtd), has called on the Federal Gov-ernment to allow the army recall all those soldiers on the reserved list to join in the fight against Boko Ha-ram. According to him, the country is indeed at war over the unabated Boko Haram bloody campaigns in parts of the north east of the country.
Similarly, he has implored the government to invite war veterans to join in the fight, so as to prevent Boko Haram from overrunning the en¬tire country. This is even as he pleaded with the United States government, to recon¬sider its earlier stance, and sell arms to Nigeria to help in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the country.
He made these known yesterday in Kaduna, in re¬sponse to the enquiries by Saturday Sun, on how best he thinks the Boko Haram issue could be handled. In a lengthy text, which was later circulated to other media, especially online plat¬forms, Umar who noted that the plan of the insurgents was to use the conquered North-east, to conquer the other parts of Nigeria, how¬ever expressed sadness that Nigerian politicians were carrying on as if all that mat¬ters to them was 2015, de¬spite the killings going on. “How else can one describe the recklessness and the cold indifference being displayed by our politicians as they di¬vert attention of the nation away from the killings and creating the impression that all that matters is the 2015 elections.
“And while our politi¬cians dance away the nights and days to the wild cheers of their gullible and greedy supporters, town after town is overrun and brought under the merciless control of the BH insurgents.”
“And I feel compelled to appeal to all Nigerians to recognise that Nigeria is in¬deed at war. It is a war that seems set to engulf the entire country. We need to under¬stand that the war in north-east is a war against Nigeria.
