BUHARI ENDORSES EL-RUFA’I AS KADUNA GOV

Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Major General Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed Malam Nasir el-Rufa’i as the standard-bearer of the APC in the Kaduna State guber race for 2015, saying the former minister of the FCT had the qualities to make Kaduna great.
Speaking at el-Rufa’i’s public declaration for the Kaduna govern
orship, held at the Kaduna Trade Fair on Monday, Buhari also called on Nigerians to get their permanent voter card, which he said is their gun against incompetency in government.
Amidst a thunderous applause, the former head of state said “I developed cold feet to come and present el-Rufai to you, because of the sacrifices which he wanted to make on my behalf which I turned down. But he insisted that I must contest and I told him that if I must contest, you must also come out to contest, because I believe he has the qualities required to make Kaduna State great again. These qualities are firstly competence, integrity and courage.”

“Whoever is interested in the development of this country, and I have seen the way el-Rufai handled Abuja, we know that el-Rufai loves this country, and he is endowed with these three qualities I have mentioned.
So please, people of Kaduna State, I assure you, I am not being arrogant, I am just being honest, if you vote el-Rufai, you are not doing him a favour, but you are doing yourself a favour.
“el-Rufai is a kind of person that will respect you if you respect yourself, and if you don’t respect yourself, he will help you go down the drain. I am here deliberately to ask for your support and understanding for el-Rufai and for myself.
“All our efforts that we have made will be for nothing if you don’t get your permanent voters’ cards.” Your card is your gun against incompetency in government, and the deception of Nigerians. We have suffered enough. You know what it takes to repair Nigeria, especially the infrastructure, security, and above all employment. Let us get the infrastructure working, let’s get the security materially, physically and morally.”
Earlier in his address, Malam el-Rufai said he was formally declaring to run for governor of Kaduna State so as to move the state from a state where people live in mutual suspicion; where few people feel safe and secure to a much better place.
He said “over the last few months, I have traversed all the 23 local government areas in Kaduna State and visited tens of communities. Some of the places I visited were so remote, isolated and cut off from government that it would have been difficult to believe that they were part of Kaduna State. I consulted widely with people –from traditional rulers, respected elders and public officials that can speak out, as well as ordinary people, who have no voice but rely on someone to speak for them. My purpose was to listen to the people and understand what they wanted from the state government and how the government and the people can work together to develop our state.”
