I JOINED PDP TO INSTIL DISCIPLINE – GEN. USENI

The founder of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Lieutenant General Jeremiah Timbut Useni (Rtd), yesterday explained why he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and throws his weight behind President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term presidential bid, saying Jonathan deserves another term to transform the country.
Speaking to newsmen in Gindiri shortly after the Church of Christ in Nations bestowed on him an award for contri
buting to the development of the church; Useni said his decision to join PDP was to instil discipline in the party and to work for Jonathan’s victory in the forthcoming general elections.
When asked to comment on the rumour of his defection to PDP, he said: “It is not a rumour that I joined PDP. I didn’t decamp to PDP, but I rather joined PDP. We should expect smooth and discipline in PDP.”

He continued: “We had discipline in my former party which is what I intent to inject in PDP. There are so many cases of indiscipline in the party which is not the best. Therefore, we must learn to do things in accordance with the electoral laws. When somebody wins primary election and someone else is announced winner, it’s not healthy for our democracy, and we must do everything possible to discourage it.”
