MOUNT ROADBLOCK, LOSE YOUR JOB, AIG WARNS POLICEMEN

THE Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Ambrose Aisabor, has warned against mounting roadblocks by policemen, saying that anyone found wherever he sees a roadblock would lose their jobs.
Aisabor, who, stated this on Tuesday at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo State, during a familiarisation tour to the police
command, also described incivility to members of the public as the major problem the society had with the police force, emphasising that members of the public would only respect police officers who display civility.Pointing out that the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, did not say that there should not be stop-and-search and vehicular and foot patrol, the AIG warned against use of tyres and log to block roads.
“If you are caught on any illegal duty, you will disgrace yourself and your family, because you will be dismissed,” he added.
On the 2015 elections, Aisabor enjoined his officers and men to provide a level playing field for all political parties, saying there would be no problem “if the police are impartial and fair to all in any political situation.
“Campaign has started and it is going to be hectic between now and February. Your duty is to provide security and make sure campaigns are not hijacked by thugs. You are not politicians. Don’t allow lawlessness.”
He also noted the security situation being faced by Nigeria, urging the officers and men in Oyo State command to be alert always and be security-conscious and also protect their stations, barracks and armoury.
