NGILARI RECRUITS 10,000 HUNTERS TO TACKLE INSURGENTS

The Adamawa state governor, Barr. Bala James Ngillari has expressed the readiness pf his administration to enlist the services of local hunters, and the local vigilantes, known as the Civilian JTF, in liberating towns captured by the Boko Haram insurgents in the northern parts of the state, as it will also train the local vigilante to change their perception, and guard against abuses.
Ngilari, who dropped the hint shortly a
fter an emergency meeting with security chiefs in the state, said that at least no fewer than 10,000 persons will be enlisted in the scheme as members of the Civilian JTF, to help security forces in pushing back the Islamist sect, Boko Haram.
The governor, who spoke through his media aide, Mr. P.P Elisha, said that the main duty of the civilian JTF is to assist law-enforcement agencies in their job of providing security to the society, ‘’ that is why they sometimes join the military at the check points,” he said.
According to him, “This does not give them a license to take laws into their hands by harassing or arresting innocent members of the society,’’ he said.
He noted that both the government and people of Adamawa have lauded the collaborative efforts of vigilance groups, hunters and the military in combating the Boko Haram insurgency in the state.
He said such efforts should be encouraged by communities in the North-East to curtail the activities of the insurgents.
