SHETTIMA ACCUSES ELITE OF FLEEING BORNO

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State flayed the elite for fleeing the state to other parts of the country due to the insurgency, describing their action as “unpatriotic and selfish.”
Shettima made the condemnation while addressing youth vigilantes, popularly known as ‘Civilian JTF” who thronged the Government House on a solidarity visit.
The governor wa
s on Monday received by a mammoth crowd at the Maiduguri airport after his return from Abuja, where he received his form purchased by members of the National and state Assembly for him to seek a re-election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While addressing the vigilantes, Shettima said he will remain in Maiduguri, no matter the odds.
“My appreciation goes to you, the youths, for standing by us at this trying moment. You have exhibited a sense of patriotism and love for our state and in the process, many of you lost their lives. It is sad to note that most of our elite have fled to Abuja, Kano, Kaduna and Lagos, not only with their wives and children but with their grand children and stewards,” he said.
He lamented that as 2015 draws nearer, such fleeing politicians are trooping back to Maiduguri to seek elective position.
“As far as I am concerned, what these Abuja politicians are trying to do is the height of injustice to our people,” he said.
Shettima said he will continue to support youth vigilantes by providing them with necessary equipment to keep Maiduguri and adjoining towns and villages safe.
