WE’VE ALL BETRAYED SIR AHMADU BELLO - YERO

Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has said that northerners have deviated from the principle laid down by the late Premier of Northern region, and Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
He stated this when he addressed audience at a public presentation of a book on the life of the Sardauna of Sokoto written by Salihu Abdullahi in Kaduna yesterday
.
According to Yero, Sardauna laid a solid foundation for the north and this can be seen in structures like Kaduna Textiles Limited (KTL), New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC), Bank of the North, Radio and Television Kaduna (RTK), New Nigerian Newspapers, the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, and host of others.
“Today, some of these establishments have remained comatose or totally out of production. Where is the Bank of the North today? The New Nigerian Newspapers problem is visible to us and we are walking around as if there is no problem, but here is problem with us in the north because we have forgotten where we are coming from and how we used to be the champion of the economy of the country in the past.“The abject poverty and insecurity bedeviling the nation today can be traced to the period we deviated from laid down principle from people like Sir Ahmadu Bello and we started doing things on our own way.
“The North today have to wake up from its slumber in order to regain its leadership role. Today we are launching a book to celebrate an icon, a role model to northerners, but look at the empty hall. Where are the so-called mighty and powerful northerners?
“We all know that Sardauna preached the principle of politics without
bitterness. It was written that late Malam Aminu Kano and late Sir Ahmadu Bello belong to different political parties yet when there is a matter concerning the north, they unite and ensure that the people get the best of the situation, but today once you are in different political party to even shake hand or greet is a problem and this is not in our character as northerners.
“We all know that late Sardauna was not religious bigot as he accommodated all other faiths and his cabinet comprises of Christians and Muslims and that is what united us together and gave us the upper
hand over other regions; but today it is painful to note that people are taking arms against each other based on religious belief, it is time we as northerners come back to our senses and follow the path laid down by late Sardauna and others,” he said.
In his own remarks, the book reviewer, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, Dan Masanin Kano, said it was not enough to always refer to late Sardauna as the father of the north but to emulate him.
