I Don’t Own The Army Uniforms, They Were Kept With Me •Says Man Who Claims To Be Undercover Agent For NSA

The way and manner uniforms and weapons meant for securtiy agencies sometimes get into wrong hands was exposed recently when policemen from Sango Division in Ibadan, Oyo State arrested a 47-year-old man, Mr Olajide Ajide, for parading himself as an officer of the Nigerian Army while he also claimed to be an undercover agent working for the National Security Adviser in Abuja.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Commisssioner of Police in charge of administration in Oyo state, Mr Clement Adoda, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mbu Joseph Mbu, during a press briefing recently.

Mr Adoda told journalists that the suspect was arrested on Monday, November 5 when he went to a shop at Agbowo area of Ibadan and was seen claiming to be an army officer while threatening someone there.

One of the bystanders was said to have observed that his mien did not tally with that of an officer and based on that suspicion, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Sango Division, Mrs Sybil Akinfenwa, was contacted.

Policemen were said to have been sent to the scene and on arrival there, the man claimed to be working at the presidency as an undercover agent.

Unconvinced of his explanation, he was promptly arrested. On searching his car, three walkie-talkies, three camouflage army uniforms, a United Nations Missions face cap, one army bullet-proof vest, three army green trousers and shirts, some forged identity cards, among other items, were found.

While speaking with journalists, Ajide said he did not claim to be an army officer, though he admitted that he said he was an undercover agent. Saying that he was a nurse, Ajide stated that: “the uniform is not mine.

It belongs to Corporal Mathew Amos who works in 2 Division of the Nigerian Army and he asked me to keep them for him. I never wore the uniform, it was put on me.” He added: “Amos is my friend. He used to come to come to my house and I sometimes visited him too. He told me the uniform belongs to his boss.

All other things found with me also belong to Amos. It is true I said I was an undercover agent but I was never trained to be one. I was just joking by saying that.”

When asked why the identification cards he had with him indicated that he worked with the presidency and was an undercover agent, Ajide, who had an open sore on his left foot, said they were done for him by his customer at a business centre at Agbowo.

He admitted that his being a nurse and claiming to be an undercover agent contradicted each other, saying that he just realised that he had been impersonating.
