According to the source, when the
governor returned the state, he discovered that the said amount was missing, a
situation that made him to query his deputy.
The source further revealed that
when Wakala failed to defend himself on the allegation, the governor vowed
never to allow him to act as governor again until he returned the allegedly
embezzled money.
This development, added the source, forced the political mentor of the two
fighting giants, Sen. Ahmed Sani, to intervene, promising to personally refund
the money on behalf of the deputy governor to the state’s treasury. However, in spite of Sani’s intervention, our source said, the governor lived up to his promise of never handing the affairs of the state to his deputy whenever he was away.
Instead, he chose to hand over the
governance of the state to the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji
Sanusi Garba Rikiji, during his subsequent travels.
Commenting on the issue, the press secretary to the deputy governor, Malam Yusuf Idris, dismissed the allegation made against his principal as baseless.
