‘NEW PDP’ THREATENS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST INEC OVER RECOGNITION

Barely 24 hours after the emergence of a breakaway Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction called the ‘New PDP’, the actors behind the party, have warned the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, to as matter of urgency declare his stand on the alleged illegal convention of President Goodluck Jonathan/ Bamanga Tukur faction, as well as recognise them as the authentic PDP or they would seek legal redress.
Speaking to newsmen in Kano, one of the founding members of the New PDP, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Babawo, stated that “Jega should quickly come out with his stand on the illegal convention conducted by the Jonathan/ Bamanga Tukur PDP and hasten the cancellation of such or we go to court”.

He said that what the seven governors of Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Adamawa, Niger, Rivers and Kwara states did by walking out of the convention of the PDP was the best thing to happen in Nigerian politics in the recent times. “You can see that all those that are behind the illegalities that are being perpetrated in the PDP under Jonathan have nothing virtually to do with the party, they are rather intruders”, he said.
Babawo noted how the Bamanga Tukur led leadership almost emasculated the party and created a strong imperial stance against anybody that dare challenge his dictatorial leadership. “It is imperative for all Nigerians to rally round the new PDP for a better tomorrow”, he added.
Alhaji Babawo hinted that the New PDP will accord all Nigerians regardless of their background the fundamental right to contest for any position they so wish.
