Federal Government has asked Nigerians to take note of the statement credited to Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, in which he endorsed the mutiny allegedly perpetrated by some soldiers in the Nigerian Army.
Amaechi, who is the Director-General of the Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation, criticised the Nigerian military authorities for sentencing some soldiers who allegedly rebelled against the state, saying their action was justified.
In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, the government recalled a statement credited to Amaechi recently where he threatened that his party would form a parallel government if the 2015 elections don’t go the way of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Okupe described Amaechi’s statements as treasonable.
The statement reads in part: “The statement by the Director-General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Rotimi Amaechi, asking soldiers in the Nigerian to mutiny against the military authorities is a treasonable pronouncement.
“No responsible Nigerian or political organization for that matter should ever contemplate encouraging or supporting mutiny in the Nigerian Army under any circumstance whatsoever.
“It is a pity that because of Amaechi’s huge financial commitment to the General Buhari campaign, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has compromised his personal integrity and enviable military antecedents to endorse such reckless statements issued on his behalf.
“Rotimi Amaechi is no doubt an unrepentant sociopath whose main preoccupation is to desecrate constituted authority and create chaos and anarchy in the country.
“Very recently, for an election that is yet to be conducted, he announced shamelessly that his party will form a parallel government if it loses in 2015,” he said.
Okupe insisted that the characters in the APC do not deserve the mandate of Nigerians as they are unsuitable for leadership.
“Nigerians must clearly see the unsuitability of the major personalities that hold sway in the APC for leadership in the country.
“We enjoin all Nigerians to roundly condemn this act of treason against the state in a naked and reckless pursuit of power,” he stated.
