I’VE NEVER BEEN A HAPPY GOVERNOR, SHETTIMA SAYS

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State yesterday declared that he had never been a happy governor since he assumed office in 2011 but he is consoled by his administration’s effort to impact positively on the lives of the citizens.
He was speaking during the swearing-in of 24 new commissioners in Maiduguri, the state capital.
He said: “Like I have
said at previous times, very few things truly excite me in the last three and half years as governor of Borno State and this is mainly because, day after day, our innocent and very precious citizens in different parts of the state are continually being killed in very brutal manners by men who murder teenagers, old men and women and destroy communities in the name of our loving God. Yes, I smile and laugh just to bury what is inside me, but in the real sense, I live with inner sorrow. Hardly do happenings truly excite me. I am afraid, my situation will only be changed the day the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State is brought to an end through intensive and shared efforts with the federal government, which has the exclusive mandate of securing all Nigerians and their property.”
The governor said his source of near joy for now, is for government to make genuine impact on the lives of the surviving citizens of Borno State tthrough meeting their basic needs.
After swearing-in the commissioners at the Government House, the governor charged them to ensure that ongoing projects and programmes in their respective ministries completed, “no matter the situation.”
Shettima also swore-in a new Chief of Staff, Alhaji Modu Alhaji Musa, two permanent secretaries and the caretaker chairman of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council. Two new ministries were created, including the Ministry of Transportation and Energy and Ministry of Monitoring and Special Projects.
