The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has discovered that millions of fake Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVC) are currently in circulation, its commissioner in charge of South West, Professor Lai Olurode, has disclosed.
He said this yesterday in his goodwill message at a special national prayer for peaceful and successful conduct of the 2015 general elections, organised by the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), Kubwa branch, Abuja.
NASFAT branch missioner, Alhaji Abdul-Afeez Shutti and its chairman, Alhaji AbdulGaffar Sanusi said the prayer session was to beseech Allah to make the 2015 elections successful and violence-free.
Vowing that the fake PVCs would be rejected during the elections, Olurode restated INEC’s position that only Permanent Voter’s Cards would be allowed in the polls, urging those without them (PVCs) to steer clear of the polling booths.
He said the electoral body had challenges with the distribution of PVCs because at the moment, “we have up to 15 million voters’ cards that people are not coming to pick.”
He, however, assured that the INEC would do its best to provide before February 14, about 10 million outstanding Permanent Voter’s Cards being awaited.
