LAGOS GOVT CAUTIONS PARENTS TO BE WARY OF RAPISTS IN THE STATE


LAGOS State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye has cautioned parents to be wary of rampant of attacks by rapists  on minors across the state.
The Attorney-General, AG, who expressed deep worry over the act, disclosed that the act has reached an alarming rate where over  427 cases had been officially reported last year alone.
The AG disclosed that for such figure to be officially reported calls for worry in spite of the fact that majority of the victims or their parents hid such incidence from the public to avoid embarrassment.

He said, though the Office of the Public Defender, OPD, had secured conviction of culprits in six cases recently.  He however dislosed that his ministry had problems of assembling evidences to prosecute rape cases because most of the cases were reported late.
The state chief law officer  expressed the determination of the state government to reduce crimes to a barest minimum in the state, which prompt the government to organise monthly security meetings as well as briefing Lagosians on how to be guided.
Answering question on the position of the case of the DPO, Pen Cinema Police station, Mr. Segun Fabunmi, accused of shooting one  Ademola Aderinde during the protest against increase in the pump price of fuel in 2012, Ipaye disclosed that apart from the delay the matter suffered from the police internal mechanism, the state had instituted a civil matter against the police to get compensation for the deceased family.
