The Directorate
of State Security Service (SSS), Makurdi has paraded three suspects for
allegedly attempting to defraud the Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam of
$3million.
The suspects had claimed they were Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) operatives.
The SSS Director in the state, Raheed Adeniran, who paraded the
suspects in Makurdi on Friday at the SSS headquarters in the state gave the
names of the suspects as Mark Gbaa, Bulus Ashon and Nuhu Bawa.
He disclosed that the three were arrested at the point of
collecting the money from the governor after they hand tendered a phony letter
from the EFCC to the governor.
The SSS Director said that “during investigation, it was
discovered that the two men were actually sent by Mark Gbaa, an indigene of
Tombo in Buruku Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
“Two of them were intercepted at the government house while the
prime suspect, Mark was later arrested in Jos, the Plateau State capital
following a thorough interrogation of the initial suspects,” he further stated.
According to him, “We gathered that he sent Bulus and Nuhu to
come and collect the said money from the governor to help him (Suswam) settle
certain unresolved cases he had with the EFCC.”
The SSS boss further pointed out that “he (Mark) initially gave
his name as Nasir Nasama while his other accomplices posed as EFCC officials;
they are helping the command in its investigations because we gathered that one
leading member of the gang is on the run but we are on his trail.”
He noted however that Nuhu is an employee of College of
Technology, Pankshin while Bulus is a serving mobile policeman with the 44
Police Mobile Force, Abuja.
