Immediate past former governor of Benue State, Dr. Gabriel Suswam, has denied reports that he battered his wife in London, over which he was briefly arrested and detained by the police.
The former governor also denied that his wife, Yemisi, looted the state treasury while he was governor of the state.
Suswam, in a statement personally signed by him, described the reports, which went viral weekend, as the handiwork of elements bent on tarnishing his image for political reasons.
According to an online medium, the former governor was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Domestic Violence Officers, for battering his wife.
He was allegedly booked into the London detention centre for several hours before a judge set a £5,000 bail bond, which he met, before he was released.

2015: ONLY GOD CAN STOP ME FROM GOING TO SENATE –SUSWAM
Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, yesterday declared that only God can stop him from going to the Senate in 2015. He said the renewed campaign against him by some politicians and those he called traducers would not stop him from going ahead with his plans to contest the senatorial election in 2015. The governor’s tenure is expected to elapse on May 29, 2015.
Suswam, in a chat with newsmen in Abuja, said the new campaign that he forged his academic certificates was part of moves by his opponents to taint his image and discourage him from contesting next year’s election.
He said: “I will contest the senatorial election next year. In fact, only God can stop me from going to the Senate. They have come back with their usual lies about my certificates. Their desperation is to gain public attention.”

WHY I’M ALWAYS WITH JONATHAN – GOV SUSWAM
Benue State governor Gabriel Suswam yesterday explained reasons behind his unflinching support for President Goodluck Jonathan, saying his motive is to attract federal projects to the agrarian state.
There have been serious agitations from people of the state that the governor is globetrotting and that his closeness to the president has not positively affected the deplorable condition of the farming state.
But Suswam who spoke on a live phone-in programme on Radio Nigeria Harvest 103.5 FM, Makurdi, Monday, dispelled the allegations and stated that his closeness to Jonathan should not be misunderstood by the people for pursuit of his personal aggrandizement, but a pavement to foster a cordial working relationship that will attract developmental projects to the state.
