The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday held its congress in most states of the federation, with some of the executive members emerging through consensus.
Lagos APC returns Ajomale
Members of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have returned the party’s interim State Chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale as their substantive chairman.
Ajomale alongside 34 other executives of the party, were elected on yesterday at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja through an affirmative voice-votes of 2,105 accredited delegates at the state’s congress.
Prior to the congress that attracted large turnout, two contenders who jostle for the office with Ajomale reportedly stepped down for him in a race that was devoid of any violence or dissenting voice.
Notable members of the caretaker committee returned with the exception of the secretary, Mr. Odugbesi who was replaced by Wasiu Eshinlokun Sanni and Princess Adetoun Adeniran who was replaced by a former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Chief Mrs. Kemi Nelson.
Others elected include Cardinal James Odumbaku,(deputy chairman) Joe Igbokwe (Publicity Secretary) among others.
Earlier in his address, APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was represented by former Minister of State for Defence, Demola Seriki, urged members not to defect from the party, stressing the need for them to work together to ensure APC success in 2015 elections.
Stressing the need for hard work and commitment on the part of the party leaders in ensuring that APC wins in 2015, especially in Lagos State, Seriki urged the newly elected state executives and those who lost out during the contest to work with all party members for success of the party.
Anambra APC Congress Peaceful
The state congress of the AllProgressive Congress, APC, held nationwide yesterday was conducted peacefully in Anambra state with a total of 2007 delegates from the 21local government areas of the state taking part in the exercise.
At the congress held at the popular Dr. Alex Ekwueme square, Awka,the state capital, a total of 35 officers were elected with Barrister Emeka Ibe from Orumba-South local government area in the South Zone emerging as state Chairman.
Other principal state officers of the party elected were: Hon. Chukwuma Agufugo, Secretary; Mr. Okelo, Publicity Secretary, Barrister C.C Udenwa, Legal Adviser and Chief (Mrs) Calista Nwachukwu, state Woman leader, among others.
Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige representing the Anambra Central Senatorial district explained that though virtually all the officers emerged through consensus arrangement, the delegates had to still cast their votes for the candidates to full the provisions of the APC constitution.
Kwara APC Picks Executives Through Consensus
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state yesterday picked members of its executive council through consensus arrangement.
Though election was held as required by the party’s constitution, all the 35 members of the executive council were returned unopposed.
A total of 1,500 delegates participated in the state congress that took place at the government banquet hall, Ahmadu Bello Way, Ilorin.
The former interim chairman, Alhaji Isola Balogun-Fulani and the secretary, Prince Yemi Afolayan retained their positions while Alhaja Sarah Adebayo was elected as woman leader and Sulyman Buhari as publicity secretary.
The state congress was attended by the leader of the party in the state, Senator Bukola Saraki, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, his deputy, Peter Kishra, National publicity secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, including all members of the House as well as APC members of National Assembly from the state.
The event marked the conclusive part of a process that commenced on April 5, 2014 to put elected party executives in place at wards, local government and state levels as enshrined in articles 11 and 12 of the party.
Speaking at the event , the chairman of the state congress committee, Alhaji Yunus Akintunde, charged the new party executives to be resolute in achieving ‘one man, one vote’.
He also said that they must continue to demand full adoption of biometric system from INEC, adding that “it is the only indisputable ladder to the conduct of free and fair elections in Nigeria”.
The congress chairman also advised the new party executives to imbue true leadership qualities and values, adding that they should accommodate and engage all in true spirit of inclusiveness.
APC Now Rooted In Rivers -Abe
The Senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe has described the orderly conduct of the Rivers State Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) amidst massive turn up of delegates as monumental.
Abe who stated this shortly after participating in the party’s State Congress held today at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt, said the comportment and peace witnessed during the exercise was a clear indication that APC was now rooted in Rivers State.
He said; “With the development here today, I am convinced that APC has penetrated the grassroots in Rivers State and will emerge victorious in the 2015 general elections.”
