‘WHY AIRFORCE UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE GULMA IS NOT OPERATIONAL’ –AIR FORCE

The Nigerian Air force has said its recently unveiled unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) ‘Gulma’ is not operational.
A statement by the spokesman of the Air Force, Air Commodore Yusuf Anas said, the unmanned aerial vehicle was a prototype and is yet to be deployed for operational purposes.
The air force statement is in reaction to a news report titled; “how federal government blew opportunity to locate girls with drones.”
According to Anas, “the attention of the Nigerian Air Force has been drawn to a news story in a national newspaper titled “How FG blew opportunity to locate girls with drones.”’
He noted that, the paper stated that "Last December, Nigeria also unveiled a locally made drone at an air force base in Kaduna, although, it has not flown since."

“The story alluded to the fact that the Nigerian Air Force unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which could have been used by the government to locate the girls had not flown,” he said.
There is a need therefore to put the record straight as it concerned the Nigerian Air Force unmanned aerial vehicle, Anas said.
He said, “The Nigerian Air Force after several years of research and development efforts was able to produce the first indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle nick named "GULMA."’
Anas said, what was unveiled by Mr President was just a prototype, and full scale production is still ongoing.
“The Nigerian Air Force unmanned aerial vehicle "Gulma" is yet to be deployed for operational uses. Meanwhile training of the NAF UAV operators is currently ongoing,” the Air Force statement said.
