TRADITIONALISTS ADVOCATE FOR TEACHING OF IFA IN SCHOOLS

Traditionalists under the aegis of Traditional Religion Worshipers Association in Osun State have used the occasion of this year annual Isese Day celebration to call on government at all levels for the establishment of Ifa studies in the education curriculum for teaching in both primary and secondary schools.
The traditional religious worshipers in Osun State celebrated the 2014 ‘Isese’ Festival in fanfare as they propagate their religions as the best.
President of the Traditional worshipers in the state, Chief Idowu Awopetu while speaking at a colloquium to mark the festival in Osogbo said efforts by traditionalists to ensure the introduction of Ifa studies in the teaching curriculum have failed as the state government declined the request.

Chief Awopetu who appealed to the state government to allow teaching of Ifa studies in both public primary and secondary schools in the state, studying Ifa by young people would prevent juvenile delinquencies in the state.
He urged the state government to support the traditionalists in their bid to develop Ifa School located in Masifa in Ejigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Osun state government had declared every 20th of August of each year as a Public Holiday in commemoration of World Traditional Religion Day otherwise tagged as “Isese day”.
Traditionalists from across the country also joined their Osun state counterparts to celebrate the day as they danced round the venue of the programme with special march pass by masquerades.
Addressing the worshipers, Governor Rauf Aregbesola reiterated the commitment of the current administration to the welfare of the people of the state.
Aregbesola who was represented by Alhaji Sikiru Ayedun, Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture assured that his second term in office would be used to channel the course of the people and the development of the state.
