HEADS MAY ROLL OVER POLICE COLLEGE BRIBERY SCANDAL

There are strong indications that police officers involved in the recent alleged bribe for promotion scandal at the Ikeja Police College in Lagos may have earned the wrath of Suleiman Abba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
Last week, Sunday Independent exclusively reported the alleged monumental bribe running into N52.3 million in a single s
woop at the college.
The report was said to have rattled the IGP, forcing him to dispatch some senior police officers from Abuja to Lagos to commence investigations into the matter.
However, based on our report, dependable sources disclosed that last week Wednesday, a signal sent on Abba’s instructions, requested that police officers, who paid and those who received the alleged bribe should come forward at the college.

Officers who paid the money were to have their monies refunded to them, while those who received the bribe were to undergo Orderly Room trial.
Insider sources said that instead of N7, 500 that were allegedly paid by the officers seeking to be promoted to their next ranks, only N4, 000 was refunded to some of the officers, who boldly came for their refunds.
However, a curious twist was said to have been added to the refund arrangements as the police officers, who showed up for refund were also requested to fill a form. In the said form, they were asked to provide their names, Force No, ranks, as well as the divisions they were presently serving.
However, our sources revealed that with the forms filled, it is likely that those who paid the bribe, as well as the receivers may be punished.
Sunday Independent further gathered that the IGP is angry that the “bribe for promotion” money should happen at this point in time that his regime is trying to run modern, bribe-free Force.
Our correspondent met brick wall while attempting to get the names and ranks of the officers who were allegedly implicated in the scandal, as sources bluntly refused to disclose their names.
The IGP and the Police Service Commission (PSC), according to our sources, would either have the officers, who took the bribe undergo Orderly Room trial or re-deploy them to other divisions nationwide as a form of punishment in the months ahead.
Meanwhile, the signal for the promotion of successful officers, who sat for the examination, is out. It is likely that between now and February, the officers could be decorated with their next ranks, our correspondent gathered.
Meanwhile, the investigation initiated by the IGP into the alleged “money-for-promotion” scandal at the Police College, Ikeja, seems to have suffered a setback.
According to Force spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu, who exclusively spoke Sunday Independent in Abuja, at the weekend, nobody had come forward to prove that he gave money to any instructor in the school.
He however disclosed that the police authorities have mapped out strategies to ensure that such incident do not occur in any of the training schools and colleges.
Ojukwu said: “I can tell you authoritatively that till date, we don’t have any evidence of such, because, nobody has actually come forward to say that he gave money to anybody.
