LABOUR PARTY TARGETS DELTA GOVT HOUSE, AS OGBORU PICKS GUBER FORM

FORMER Delta state leader and three time governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Great Ogboru, yesterday led members of his party in the state to move into the Labour Party (LP), just as he picked the party’s expression of interest and nomination form to contest the governorship election in the state.
Ogboru, who was accompanied to the Labour Party national secretariat in Abuja by a numb
er of his supporters and former DPP members in Delta state said they decided to collapse the state chapter of DPP into the LP after due consultations and considerations, stressing that it is only the LP that shared in the manifesto and programme of the DPP.
He said: “I want to put it clear that in our quest to develop democracy in the country, we from the Delta state DPP have moved into the Labour Party. We had no other option but join the party. We chose the LP because we found out after due consultations that it is the only party that has policies and programmes that are in line with the DPP. It is the party that practices real democracy. The other two parties are birds of the same feather.”
On his chances of winning the Delta governorship race, following the strength of the PDP and the defection of another faction of DPP in the state to the All Progressive Congress (APC), Ogboru noted: “Of course you know that those who left the party were in the minority. And in this case, they are a minute minority of our former party that joined the APC. We still have over 90 per cent of our leaders intact who have joined me today to the Labour Party. Also about 50 per cent of them have rejoined us and before the next election, I am sure that about 91 percent of those who left us would have come back to join us. Nonetheless, those who left still believe that we still have the strong mandate of Delta people to change their future.”
