FASHOLA: NO MINORITY CAN DISRUPT NIGERIAN PEACE

• No election is perfect globally
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Saturday sent a note of warning to some interests threatening to go to war if the result of the election did not favour them, noting that no minority could disrupt peace and tranquility in Nigeria.
The governor also pointed out that no election “is perfect globally,” though he tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respond swiftly to tackle hitches recorded during the electoral process.

PDP MAY DRAG FASHOLA TO RIGHTS COMMISSION

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State chapter, is considering reporting Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over the violation of the rights of Lagosians, especially monarchs in the state.
In a statement Sunday signed by its Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, the party stated that it uncovered plans by Fashola to meet with all Lagos monarchs on Wednesday March 25 at an undecided venue. According to the statement, the meeting which is to be instigated by a former governor of the state, Bola Tinubu, is to induce the monarchs, especially the undecided, to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

2,123 POLICEMEN PROTECTED JONATHAN WHILE ROBBERS RAIDED BANK – FASHOLA

THE Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday said 2, 123 policemen that would have helped to repel the Thursday bank robbery in the state were sent to protect President Goodluck Jonathan when he visited Lagos.
Fashola, who said this at the 2015 Agric Value Chains Empowerment programme, lamented that the President’s visit to the state paralysed the state security apparatus so much that it could not foil the robbery.
He said nearly all the vehicles bought by the state government for the police to be able to respond rapidly to crimes were on the alert for the President.
Fashola said, “The President came to Lagos last Thursday, and while citizens were being robbed, the President was protected by 2,123 security personnel.

ABATI IS A RECKLESS SERIAL TALKER- FASHOLA

The war of words between Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state and President Goodluck Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati is far from over as the Lagos state governor has described the president’s spokesman as a “reckless serial talker” over his comment regarding the robbery incident at a branch of FCMB in Lekki, Lagos. It would be recalled that Fashola had blamed the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Lagos as the reason why the robbery incident was successful because the policemen who ordinarily would have mounted surveillance at the scene of the incident were deployed to protect the president who was visiting the state. President Jonathan was at the headquarters of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Marina at the time of the attack. In his response to Fashola’s criticism, Abati described his statement as irresponsible and unintelligent.

I HAVE KEPT MY PROMISES, BUT JONATHAN HAS NOT, FASHOLA BOASTS

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of failing to fulfill his promises made to Nigerians prior to the 2011 election, saying, “that is the difference between us, All Progressives Congress, APC, and them, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led Federal Government.
Fashola made the remarks at the commissioning of the 2.18 Kilometer Glover Road, Ikoyi, which also had in attendance the business mogul, Otunba Subomi Balogun, Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and others dignitaries in attendance.
He said that the President has continued to come back with new promises without fulfilling the previous ones.

POWER SUPPLY: ALL HOMES IN LAGOS WILL BE LIT IN SIX MONTHS IF… —FASHOLA

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, said the solution to the problem of power sector could be achieved in six months if the Distribution Companies, DISCOs, were ready to yield some percentages of their concessions to the state government.
Fashola made this statement at the commissioning of the 1.2 kilometer Glover Road and 8.5 megawatts, Peninsula Integrated Power Project, PIPP, Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
The governor, while commissioning the fifth IPP, said: “Let the EKO DISCOs sign a contract with me, giving part of their concessioning to the state government. In about six to eight months, there will be power in all homes in Lagos State.
“So, let no one say that he has no money to deliver power for the entire country. This is the limit to which the law allows us to do, but we have done this to make a statement that power can be generated.

FASHOLA BUYS BURIAL SPOT IN LEKKI

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) stunned a gathering in Lekki yester¬day when he said four years ago, he bought his own vault where his remains would be interred.
He told journalists after inspecting the site of the new cemetery in Ibeju-Lekki that death is a necessary end that will come when it will come, saying there is the need for people to prepare for it.
According to him, “we are here to inspect a cemetery, we often don’t like to talk about, but there is a need for it because the population continues to expand and the Lekki sub-region is growing very fast.

FASHOLA DESTABILIZES BUHARI’S CAMP: SAYS AGBAJE IS “TOO OLD TO RULE LAGOS” AT IKEJA RALLY

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Wednesday, in what is deemed a major faux-pas on his part has tasked Lagos residents to resist the idea of voting for Mr. Jimi Agbaje the PDP governorship candidate for being too old to rule the state.
Mr. Jimi Agbaje born March 2, 1957 is currently 57 years old.

Governor Fashola made this remark at the Lagos West senatorial campaign of the APC governorship candidate, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, which took place at Sky Power Play Ground, Ikeja. 

STOP BLAMING PAST LEADERS, FASHOLA TELLS JONATHAN

The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, on Thursday took a swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan, for blaming past leaders for the problems facing the country and his administration, advising him to “get out of the kitchen, if it is becoming to hot for him.”
Fashola spoke during the mobilisation visit of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign held at Imaguero College in Benin, Edo State.
The governor also berated the President, whom he said had shown anger about Nigeria’s problems and blamed “everybody,” during the commencement of the presidential campaign of the People’s Democratic Party in Lagos on Thursday, without proffering solutions.
He said the February 14 presidential election would centre on the assessment of the president in his six years in office, noting that unlike the PDP, the presidential candidates of the APC had provided viable solutions to the myriad of problems facing the country in three weeks.

FASHOLA: AGBAJE NO THREAT TO LAGOS APC

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, yesterday said that the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the state, Mr. Jimmy Agbaje, was never a threat to the All Progressives Congress. He said that the ruling party in the state would retain its dominance in 2015 election.
The governor, who also took a swipe on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over what he described as demonstration of poor logistic capacity to organise a hitch-free election, said he would do better than Professor Attahiru Jega, if he was saddled with responsibility of heading the electoral umpire. Insisting that APC’s governorship candidate, Akinwumi Ambode would defeat Agbaje in 2015 gubernatorial poll, Fashola said he would not handover to an inexperienced politician who, according to him, will rule Lagos by experimenting. He added that Ambode has a 27 years experience in the service of the state and would consolidate on his achievement, if elected in 2015. Fashola spoke at the maiden end of Year news conference organised by the state government.

2015 ELECTIONS: WHY NIGERIA NEEDS CHANGE AT THE CENTRE, BY FASHOLA

LAGOS State Governor Babatunde Fashola has again called for change of leadership at the national level, saying Nigeria is too important to be left in the hands of those who play politics with the lives of the citizenry.
Speaking at twin events hosted by Yoruba Tennis Club and Island Club of Lagos Friday, Fashola noted that the Peoples Democratic Party-led government had failed to perform her most important responsibility; that is, security of life and property of citizens and protection of the territorial integrity of the nation.
The governor who observed that Nigerians handed over a whole country to the ruling party in 2011, expressed regrets that the same party is now returning to Nigerians to ask for another leadership mandate with only part of the country, having lost some parts to insurgents.

STOP PRAISING FASHOLA, PDP CHAIRMAN TELLS LAGOSIANS

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, says Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has not done too well to merit the praise he receives from residents of the state.
He said Fashola had not performed as well as his Akwa Ibom State counterpart, Mr. Godswill Akpabio.
Ogundipe said this at a forum of Local Government Area chairmen under the aegis of Goodluck Lagos Grassroots Project in Lagos on Monday.
He spoke alongside PDP leaders in the zone at the event themed, ‘Transformation Agenda: Continuity for National Progress’.
He said, “No one should say Fashola is doing well in Lagos. Go to Akwa Ibom and see what the governor is doing there. Look at the stadium in Akwa Ibom. How many stadiums has Fashola built? There are bad roads all over the state with heavy traffic every day.
“Instead of Fashola to fix the roads, he was busy repairing Federal Government roads and sending inflated bills to the Federal Government as the cost of repair.”

AMBODE VISITS FASHOLA

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Lagos State governorship election in 2015 general elections, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, on Monday visited the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) in his office.
The visit was seen by many as the beginning of the end to the acrimony that trailed the APC governorship primary which pitted one of the national leaders of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu against his political godson, Fashola.

FINALLY, INEC REGISTERS FASHOLA, WIFE

SEQUEL to a visit on Tuesday by a team from the National Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to apologise for the shoddy distribution of Permanent Voters’ card in Lagos State, Governor Babatunde Fashola, Saturday re-registered, alongside his wife, Dame Abimbola Fashola, for card to be used in the 2015 general elections.
Met on arrival at 9.30am by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola, and other officials at Ward G3 unit E002m at State Junior Grammar School, Itolo Street, Surulere, Fashola and his wife joined other residents of the area to undertake the registration processes again, after which he was presented with another Temporary Voter’s Card by the Commissioner.

All is still not well within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) over the governorship primary won by former accountant-general of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Friday.
Ambode, the candidate endorsed by the national leader of the party and former governor of the state, Bola
Tinubu, defeated 13 other aspirants, including the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji; former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Olasupo Shasore; Senator Ganiyu Solomon, and former Commissioner for Health, Leke Pitan.
Others he floored to clinch the ticket were incumbent commissioner for works, Obafemi Hamzat, Tokunbo Wahab, Tayo Ayinde, Adekunle Disu, Abayomi Sutton, Tola Kasali, and the only female aspirant, Tokunbo Agbesanwa.

APC RULES OUT FASHOLA AS VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has been ruled out as a running mate to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress anytime the candidate emerges, investigation by The PUNCH has revealed.
A highly placed source in the party, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity in Abuja on Sunday, said that Fashola’s religion had ruled him out of the race.
He said since it was almost certain that the party would field a Muslim as its presidential candidate, it would therefore be out of place to field another Muslim as the running mate.
Apart from a former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the party also has three other known presidential aspirants.
They are a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwakwanso; and a newspaper publisher, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Friday, failed to distribute Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at Ward G3, State Junior Secondary School, Surulere, the polling unit, where the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, and his wife, Abimbola, registered in 2010.
Saturday Independent gathered that some INEC ad-hoc staff had hurriedly pasted a notice on Thursday night to notify voters who had registered in the two wards located on Itolo Street, that they had no voter cards.
The commission said the voters would have to register afresh at a later date.
The notice pasted at the entrance of the school read: “We regret to inform you that those who registered in this polling unit do not have permanent voter cards. Please come back between 3 and 8 December 2014, for fresh registration.”

I DON’T KNOW MY POLITICAL FUTURE –FASHOLA

With six months left in his tenure, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has said he did not know what his next step in politics would be.
Fashola, who said this during an interview with Channels Television, noted that in spite of the efforts of the Peoples Democratic Party, his party, the All Progressives Congress, would retain Lagos State in 2015.
When asked what his next step in politics would be, he said, “I don’t know honestly. I do well in multitasking. I have a job to do that runs until May 2015. And up till now people haven’t stopped asking me and my government for services. My mandate expires on the 29th of May and I’m going to give my best shot until the very final hour.”
He added that that he hoped that his successor would be able to do better than he has done.
