CECILIA IBRU MOVES TO RECOVER FORFEITED ASSETS AS AMCON OBJECTS

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has objected to a suit by the convicted former Managing Director of the defunct Oceanic Bank Plc, Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, seeking to retrieve the assets she forfeited to the federal government on her conviction in October 2010.
Following a plea bargain arrangement, Ibru was convicted by a Federal High Court in Lagos and was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Under the arrangement, she forfeited assets worth N191 billion comprising 94 properties across the world including the United States of America, Dubai and Nigeria to AMCON.
Ibru, who sued for herself, the Ibru Group and three others, among others, asked the court to stop the Attorney-General of the Federation and AMCON from further taking any steps towards implementing the terms of the plea bargain and settlement agreement leading to her conviction.

N1.5M BRIDE PRICE DROVE ME INTO ROBBERY —SUSPECT

A robbery suspect, Mr Godwin Olukporibe, has confessed that he was forced to form a robbery gang when his father-in-law asked him to pay N1.5 million bride price before he could marry his pregnant girlfriend.
The suspect was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Lagos State Police Command, following a tip-off that he was in a hotel with his girlfriend in Ibadan, Oyo State, western Nigeria.
Olukporibe allegedly claimed his father-in-law initially refused to give his daughter’s hand in marriage despite the fact that he had impregnated her and wanted to marry her.
The suspect said that it was after a lot of persuasion that he allow them marry but with the condition that he must give him N1.5 million as bride price.

POLICE NAB PROPHET, ACCOMPLICE OVER FRESH HUMAN PARTS

 Two persons, one of them said to be a prophet with a white garment church, have been arrested by the Police in Lagos, following  the discovery of fresh human parts in their custody. 

Vanguard gathered that policemen attached to Ikotun division on patrol accosted two men at about 12: 30 p.m, Friday, with a Ghana-must-go bag. When they requested to know the content of the bag, one of the men bolted.

THIRD MAINLAND CRASH: ‘I WAS NOT SPEEDING’

Olusola Oladimeji, the driver of the Toyota Sienna that fell off the Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon on Saturday, has described his escape as a miracle.

The father of three said contrary to reports by traffic and emergency officials, he was not on high speed when the incident occurred.

Oladimeji, who is a minister of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church, said he was on his way home from work.

POLITICS, INTRIGUES CONTINUE TO THREATEN MANITOBA TCN CONTRACT

The $23.7 million three-year management contract, which the Federal Government signed with Canadian firm, Manitoba Hydro International (MHI), to reposition the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), is still shrouded in controversies, investigations by THISDAY have revealed.

Investigations on the status of the management contract revealed that it is still being vehemently opposed by interests in the power sector.

A top presidential source informed THISDAY at the weekend in Abuja that irrespective of President Goodluck Jonathan’s last minute intervention late last year to rectify and finally approve the contract in the wake of its feared cancellation, Manitoba is yet to actually assume control at TCN.

EL-RUFAI: YAR’ADUA CONSIDERED SARAKI, DAKINGARI AS SUCCESSOR

Before his death in 2010, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua was planning to serve a single term in office in view of his debilitating health, a new book by former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has revealed.

The book, titled “The Accidental Public Servant”, detailed how the late president in September 2009 consulted a prominent and influential emir from the North to assist him in finding a successor since he would not be able to run for office again because of his failing health.

When asked those he would want to succeed him, the book revealed that the late Yar’Adua wrote a list containing four names: First Lady, Turai Yar’Adua; the then Kwara State Governor and Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr. Bukola Saraki, as well as Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Saidu Dakingari, and his Bauchi State counterpart, Mallam Isa Yuguda. Both Dankigari and Yuguda are married to the late Yar’Adua’s daughters.
