THE Federal Government says it has shaken off the delay occasioned by different factors and is moving on with the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), though the scars still haunt the power sector, The Guardian inquiries have revealed.
And going by the timetable sighted by The Guardian, President Goodluck Jonathan is scheduled to commission the remaining plants built under the NIPP within the next few months.
He commissioned the 500 megawatts (MW) Omotosho power plant on October 19, 2013. Jonathan had on October 3 commissioned the 434MW Geregu 11 Power Station built by the three tiers of government under the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).
Geregu 11 is one of the generation schemes of NIPP, made up of 10 power stations. Others are Calabar (630MW), Egbema (378MW), Ihovbor (504MW), Gbarian (252MW), Sapele (504MW), Omokunu (252MW), Laoji (1076 MW), Olorunsogo (750MW) and Omotosho (500MW). About 5,000MW of electricity is expected from the plants.

The late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua may not have died had the family heeded the advice to evacuate him from Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja three weeks before he died.

National Secretary of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Pastor Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, one of the four pastors who visited the Villa to pray for Yar’Adua at the height of his sickness in 2010, disclosed this at the weekend.

In commutation of the third anniversary of the death of late President Yar’Adua President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerians to emulate the commitment of late president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to the project Nigeria.

Before his death in 2010, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua was planning to serve a single term in office in view of his debilitating health, a new book by former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has revealed.

The book, titled “The Accidental Public Servant”, detailed how the late president in September 2009 consulted a prominent and influential emir from the North to assist him in finding a successor since he would not be able to run for office again because of his failing health.

When asked those he would want to succeed him, the book revealed that the late Yar’Adua wrote a list containing four names: First Lady, Turai Yar’Adua; the then Kwara State Governor and Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr. Bukola Saraki, as well as Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Saidu Dakingari, and his Bauchi State counterpart, Mallam Isa Yuguda. Both Dankigari and Yuguda are married to the late Yar’Adua’s daughters.
