There was pandemonium in the commercial town of Potiskum, Yobe State, on Monday as a suicide bomber, believed to be a member of the Islamic fundamentalist group, Boko Haram detonated a bomb on a procession of Shiites Muslim group celebrating the new Islamic year.
A resident of the town, Mohammed Ali, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone, said the bombing, which claimed 10 lives, happened at the Tsohuwar Kasuwa area of the town at about 10.30am, throwing the area into confusion, while residents fled in different directions.Ali said, “We all had to return home to seek safety as the explosion was followed by sporadic gunshots.
“The security operatives responded with sporadic gunshots to show their readiness to stem any attack on the town and this caused panic with people fleeing back to their homes, leaving the streets empty.”

WICKEDNESS: BODIES OF STUDENTS SHOT IN YOBE SCHOOL TODAY
Scores of students have been killed in yet another attack by terrorist group, Boko Haram, in Yobe state.
The insurgents attacked the College of Agriculture Gujba, 50 KM south of Damaturu, the state capital yesterday night and killed several students.
A staff of the school who confirmed the attack to Channels Television said several dead bodies are still being recovered from bushes, hostels and classes in and around the school as scores were killed in the attack.
The source also revealed that surviving students are at the moment making efforts to re unite with their families in fear of further attacks by the insurgents.
The security agencies are yet to confirm the incident.

BREAKING NEWS: GUNMEN KILL 40 STUDENTS IN YOBE
No fewer than 40 students of Gujba College of Agriculture in Yobe State were on Sunday morning killed by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect.
The corpses of the students have been deposited at the General Sanni Abacha Specialist Hospital and more are still been expected at press time.
The Nation learnt that the students were shot in their hostels and classrooms while fleeing from the attackers.

YOBE ACQUIRES 34 VEHICLES WORTH N416.5 MILLION FOR ROYAL FATHERS
Yobe State government has procured vehicles worth N416.5 million
for 14 traditional rulers in the state.
Speaking yesterday while inspecting the 34 vehicles that include
17 Parado jeeps and Hilux vans, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam said the vehicles were
acquired to help them carry out their traditional functions effectively.

IG LEADS 3000 POLICEMEN FOR JONATHAN’S VISIT TO BORNO, YOBE
More
than 3,000 policemen and 100 State Security Service (SSS) operatives have been
deployed in Borno State to protect President Goodluck Jonathan, who is visiting
the state and neighbouring Yobe between today and tomorrow.
The two
states are the epicentre of Boko Haram’s activities. Thousands have been killed
in the insurgency launched by the sect, which is pushing for sharia, the strict
Islamic code, among others.
The
security cover for the President’s first visit since the insurgency began, will
be coordinated by the Chief of Defence Staff, Vice-Admiral Ibrahim Ola Sa’ad
and Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar.
