“PROPHET” MURDERS FATHER OF 7; Suspect, wife, accomplice in police net

A 49-year-old man, Sulaiman Age, a staff of Distance Learning Institute, DLI, University of Lagos, UNILAG, Akoka, Lagos, was last Thursday night allegedly murdered at Ajenifuja Street, Bariga area of Lagos, by a self-acclaimed prophet who was introduced to him by his neighbour.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the deceased, a father of seven, who was also a part-time disc jockey, DJ, told his wife that he wanted to visit the prophet whose name was given as Jegun after the day’s work and never returned to tell his wife and family the outcome of his meeting with the said prophet, but only to be found dead in front of the prophet’s house the following morning.
The deceased's wife of 25 years and mother of his four out of seven children, Mrs. Silfat Sulaiman, who spoke on the incidence, said when her husband returned from work on Thursday, he informed her of the visit to the prophet, but that she became uncomfortable and restive when the deceased did not return home.
She claimed that all effort to get him on phone failed as his phone was switched off, and it was then she set out on Friday morning to search for him only to find his lifeless body in front of the prophet’s house.
The deceased wife, a fruit seller at Pako bus stop, Akoka, said when she got to the prophet’s house there were blood stains on the wall of his building and the gate, and when she demanded to know what happened to her husband, that the prophet denied knowing anything about his death.
Silifat said, ‘‘I was at my shop at about 6pm on Thursday when my husband returned from work and told me that he wanted to visit the prophet Jegun, whom he said was introduced to him by Uncle Bola, one of our neighbours. I do not know the reason why he wanted to visit the man.
“When it was becoming late and he didn’t return home, I called his phone and it was switched off; but before we started looking for him I went to Ilaje Police station, Bariga, to enquire if any case of accident was reported because he left with his motorcycle, or if he was arrested, but the police told me that there was no case of such and that they had not come across such name. I then went back to our neighbour, Uncle Bola, whom he said introduced the prophet to him, but instead of Uncle Bola taking us to the prophet’s house, he only showed us how to get there.
“On getting to the prophet’s house we saw his lifeless body lying outside covered with nylon and plywood, while his motorcycle was packed in front of the prophet’s house. That was how I came back to the police station to report.
“When he was leaving for the Prophet’s house, he had some amount of money on him which he told me he withdrew from the bank and kept in a purse, though I do not know the amount, but when we saw his lifeless body, we did not see the purse and the phone, it was only the motorcycle that was seen.
“I’m crying to the government not to let my husband die in vein and see that all those involved in his killing are brought to book. My children are still young and about to enter higher institution and the only person I hoped on for help has been killed. Please, help me out of this big problem”, the deceased’s wife pleaded.
Silifat, who spoke to our reporter in tears, said her husband had promised to sponsor all his children to any level of education they wished to attain, but with the killing of their breadwinner, such may become an unfulfilled dream. She said that she is not capable of fulfilling such alone with the meager return from her daily sales.
She described her late husband as an easy-going, generous and lover of people, who could hardly hurt a fly. She wondered what could have happened between him and the prophet which eventually led to his death.
The suspected killer, according to Mrs. Buhari, a sister of the deceased, has been boasting that nobody could do anything to him, noting that she was not satisfied with the way policemen handled the case.
She therefore appealed to the state government and police authority to help them unravel the circumstances behind the death of her brother and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to book.
However, the suspected killer of the father of seven, Prophet Jegun, his wife, and the deceased neighbour, Uncle Bola , who was said to have introduced the prophet to the deceased, have been arrested and are undergoing interrogation at Ilaje Police Division.
